Towards printing personalized orthopaedic implants, the Prosperos project – Presented by Chris Arts, Maastricht University Medical Centre

Towards printing personalized orthopaedic implants, the Prosperos project – Presented by Dr Chris Arts, Maastricht University Medical Centre, Department Orthopaedic Surgery at the 3D Medtech Printing Conference, which takes place on Feb 01 2017 at MECC Maastricht in The Netherlands.

Prosperos (Printing Personalized Orthopedic Implants) is a research project between 12 partners led by Maastricht UMC + in the area of smart, 3-D printed implants for repair of large bone defects. The research has been focused on the development of mechanical and biologically active implants that can be adapted to the personalized needs of each individual patient. Design, geometry and mechanical behavior can all be used to influence growth and attachment of bone cells on the implant surfaces. If successful, this will result in faster implant integration, faster rehabilitation and a reduction of re-operations incidence. 3D Bioprinting: Ethical Aspects and the Big Picture – Presented by Anna Pacholczyk, Centre for Ethics in Medicine, University of Bristol

Anna Pacholczyk

3D Bioprinting: Ethical Aspects and the Big Picture – Presented by Anna Pacholczyk, Centre for Ethics in Medicine, University of Bristol at the 3D Bioprinting Conference which takes place on Jan 31, 2017 at MECC Maastricht in The Netherlands.

Advances in 3D bioprinting raise ethical, social, legal and regulatory issues. This presentation outlines the contribution of ethical enquiry to considering those issues, gives a snapshot of approaches to ethical assessment and applies an ethical framework (NEST-Ethics) to guide examination of some issues raised by the development in bioprinting science and technology. Regenerative Polymers for Dentistry – Presented by Adam Celiz, University of Nottingham

Adam Celiz

Regenerative Polymers for Dentistry – Presented by Dr. Adam Celiz, University of Nottingham at the 3D Dental Printing Conference, which takes place on Jan 31, 2017 at MECC Maastricht in The Netherlands.

Current dental treatments rely on materials that do not interface well with biological tissues. We have developed therapeutic biomaterials for dental treatments by supporting native stem cells for tissue regeneration. This approach could significantly impact the practice of dentistry and establish a new paradigm for dental treatments.
