3D printing as a useful tool to create medical phantoms and learning models – Presented by Sonja Voorn, Fontys University of Applied Science at the 3D Medical Printing Conference, which will take place on 30-31 January 2018 at MECC Maastricht, The Netherlands.
During the 4-year program of Engineering Physics at the Fontys University, students perform various real-life projects. A 20-week interdisciplinary project is planned during the second part of the third year. Doctors from hospitals in Eindhoven have commissioned projects that resulted in a heart phantom and a learning model of a human leg. Both products proved to be useful in the clinic. One of the production methods used to create the product, or essential parts of it, was 3D printing. This production technique is a commonly used during student projects at Fontys, creating promising possibilities for the near future.
