This presentation will focus on the latest techniques used in endodontics to achieve success even in the most difficult cases helped by 3D design and printing technologies.
In this method, a digital impression of the patient’s jaw is taken and registered to the data from a CBCT scan. Then, a path for the treatment is created up to the target location on the CBCT scan. Finally, a guide for the bur being used during treatment is designed by means of a computer-aided design (CAD) software and printed using a 3D printer.
The concept of 3D Guided endodontics is becoming a valuable tool among clinicians as it seems to be a promising technique offering a higher predictable outcome and lower risk of iatrogenic damage. Minimally invasive treatment can be performed, and chair-side time can be reduced.

Printing has revolutionized the dental industry during the past decade and become an integral part of digital dentistry. However, little is known about the accuracy of the 3D printed models.

The aim of the presentation is to evaluate the objective accuracy of 3D printed models using various materials and printers. I will share the findings related to the accuracy of 3D printed models of teeth, impacted third molars, cortical and medullary bone. Beyond CBCT: from virtual patients to 3D bioprinting in oral healthcare – Presented by Reinhilde Jacobs, KU Leuven, at the 3D Medical Conference, which will take place on 30-31 January 2018 at MECC Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Since the introduction of the first dental CBCT in the nineties, the market has been exponentially growing. Indications are wide and not solely limited to the diagnostic aspects of CBCT. Indeed, the inherent 3D datasets may further allow surgical planning and transfer to surgery via 3Dprinting or navigation. Integrated digital patient information may allow virtual treatment planning treatment in 3 or even 4 dimensions. This currently finds applications in orthodontics, periodontal and maxillofacial surgery, tooth autotransplantation and implant placement. This may revolutionize any surgery and implies the printing of viable tissues, allowing to open up an entirely new era. Mostafa EzEldeen, KU Leuven, Presents: “3D Planning for Tooth Autotransplantation and 3D Printing of Surgical Templates”

Loss of permanent teeth is a particular challenge in children considering that alveolar bone growth is not yet complete and treatment approaches should adapt to the developmental changes in the oral region to have the potential for long-term survival. This could be realized via autotransplantation, which is a biological approach for tooth replacement in young children. This presentation will introduce the use of a CBCT-based surgical planning and transfer technique including a stereolithographic surgical guide and tooth replica to enhance the outcome of autotransplantation procedures.
