Active smart wearable orthotics for therapy (ARTHE) – Presented by Stijn Bukenbergs, Thomas More, at the 3D Medical Conference 2018, which will take place on 30-31 January 2018 at MECC Maastricht, The Netherlands. Read the interview

The ARTHE, a 3D printed motorized prototype of an assistive elbow brace, is developed as an aid for rehabilitation of muscle deficiencies in the upper limb (e.g. after CVA). The ARTHE assists the patient by measuring the voluntary movement and restores this to the full range of motion (ROM). The movement of the affected limb will be activated by triggering the force sensitive resistors or the electromyography (EMG) sensors. The functionality and usability of the ARTHE was successfully tested on 10 healthy subjects and 3 CVA patients(MAS score under 2, medical research council score between 1 to 5).
